History
Billy Ledet was born on March 20, 1934.
He started drawing pictures at the age of twelve, sketching Batman, Superman and all the other Superheros.
Billy went to the old Thibodaux College until he was thirteen, and then he went to St. Joseph Abbey in Covington, where he would study for the Catholic Priesthood. During Billy's five year stay at St. Joseph Abbey, he was able to study the paintings of a Benedictine Monk named Dom Gregory DeWitt. Dom Gregory DeWitt painted large oil paintings of the Saints on the walls of the Abbey church.
When Billy left the seminary, he continued to draw and started using the small water color set he bought to color his pictures. A few years after he left the seminary, Billy was drafted into the United States Army, where he was sent to Soeul, Korea. He became the camp artist and painted murals on walls in various buildings around the area of the camp.
While Billy was in the Army, he married his high school sweetheart, Ferdie Clement, on June 13, 1957. They had three children, Jimmy, Tessie, and Keith. Billy continued to paint, and his first large painting was a Resurrection painting at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church in Chackbay, LA. Since then, numerous christian churches and several restaurants display their Billy Ledet originals. His works can also be found in countless homes.
